Boehner Wants Teachers, Nurses, and Police Officers in Unemployment Line, Instead of in Classrooms and on the Beat

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) shocked hard-working Americans yesterday when he called dedicated individuals who teach our children, the nurses who care for us when we get sick and the police officers who patrol our streets “special interests.”

Calling a bill that saves more than 290,000 American jobs–including 140,000 teachers and school employees–a “special interest bailout” is just another example of how out-of-touch Mr. Boehner is with Main Street.

But clearly he is in touch with Wall Street:

Mr. Boehner called Wall Street Reform an “overreaction” and likened the Bush/Republican financial crisis that resulted in 8 million lost jobs and homes and retirement savings of millions of Americans decimated to “an ant”:

This is killing an ant with a nuclear weapon.

Mr. Boehner supports privatizing Social Security and handing it over to Wall Street –jeopardizing the retirement security of American seniors. Just two weeks ago, he described the GOP's alternative budget proposal–which will privatize Social Security and end Medicare as we know it–as “a pretty good list of options” when it comes to dealing with the deficit.
