Re: Spinning Harder Just Won’t Convince Americans You’re Right When It Comes To Ending Medicare

Your response to rejection by Americans opposed to your plan that abolishes Medicare as we know it seems to be simply a revised communications strategy…

The GOP message team is already scrambling to redefine the issue as a Republican attempt to “save” Medicare, not kill it…

“We have a message challenge, a big one, and that’s what the polling is showing,” conceded Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), a former Karl Rove protégé who enthusiastically backed the Ryan plan. [Politico, 5/23]

Actually, what the polling shows is that you have a policy problem, not a message challenge. Americans oppose your efforts to end Medicare in order to reward Big Oil with tax breaks.

AP-GfK Poll: Medicare doesn’t have to be cut

3 out of 5 Americans say Medicare and Social Security are vital to their basic financial security as they age.

Democrats are the party more trusted to do a better job handling Social Security by 52 percent to 34 percent, and Medicare by 54 percent to 33 percent.

If poll after poll isn’t enough to convince you, try listening to your constituents who spoke out loud and clear against your irresponsible plan last week during your trip home.

Revamping your “message” won’t hide the facts. The Republican budget ends Medicare as we know it and forces seniors to pay over $6,000 more a year, and the American people won’t be fooled into thinking otherwise.
