Tax Cuts for Middle Class Families – That’s the Point, Mr. Cantor

This afternoon on the House floor, Majority Leader Eric Cantor defended the GOP’s decision to protect tax breaks for people making more than a million dollars a year…

“We don’t believe that now is the time to raise taxes on small businessmen and women—and it’s not the millionaires and billionaires. That’s not the point.”

But he failed to mention the GOP’s refusal to extend the payroll tax cut for working Americans risks a tax hike on 160 million Americans by an average of $1,500 and the loss of at least 400,000 jobs.

In fact, Mr. Cantor, asking 300,000 millionaires and billionaires to pay slightly more (an extra $3,250 for those making $1.1 million per year) rather than putting more of a burden on working families is exactly the point.
