Democratic Congress Stands With Our Soldiers

Fact:

Fact:

· The President's Republican allies in the Congress are blocking that funding for our troops because it is tied to a strategy that winds down the war and holds the Bush Administration accountable. [Reuters, 11/17/07]

Fact:

· Republicans support a strategy that would leave the same number of American troops in Iraq next summer as were there in November 2006 when the American people called for a New Direction in Iraq policy. [Boston Globe, 11/23/07]

Fact:

· The President's strategy has failed to produce genuine political reform or success in the Iraqi government, which was the rationale for the so-called troop “surge.” [Washington Post, 11/15/07]

Fact:

· Senior military commanders have indicated that the inability of the Iraqi government to achieve political reconciliation is a bigger threat to our troops than the insurgency, al Qaeda, or Iran. [Washington Post, 11/15/07]

Fact:

· Americans demand a New Direction in Iraq that will bring our troops home safely, honorably, and soon. [Pew, 11/27/07]
